JUDA - Sophomore Nicki Becker tossed a one-hit shutout to lead the Juda-Albany softball team to a 9-0 win over Black Hawk on Tuesday.

Becker carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. Black Hawk senior Brooke Moore beat out an infield single with one out to break up the no-hit bid. Becker struck out 13 and didn't issue a walk.

"She (Becker) was on tonight," Juda-Albany coach Bill Davis said. "It looked like she had some extra gas on her pitches. It was fun to watch. She has been pitching really well lately."

Juda-Albany sophomore MacKenzie Byrne went 3-for-4 with three doubles, and sophomore Hailey Kammerer was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Junior teammate Sayde McDermitt added two RBI.

The Panthers (10-4, 8-0 Six Rivers East) had a five-run first inning against Black Hawk senior pitcher Rachel Ritschard.

"They (Black Hawk) are definitely an improved team," Davis said. "Unfortunately for them they had a couple of errors early at some key times."

Ritschard pitched six innings and gave up four earned runs on nine hits. She struck out two and walked three.

Juda-Albany plays at Shullsburg on Thursday and Black Hawk is at River Ridge-Cassville on Friday.

The Cardinals had five hits in the game. Brodhead sophomore Shelby Moyer and senior Alissa Hantke each drove in one run.

Brodhead will play at Monroe on Monday in a nonconference game.
