Argyle trips Albany; Juda wins

ALBANY - The Argyle Orioles rode the hot hand of junior Jared Johnson in the first half and senior Nate Thomas in the second half to top the Albany Comets 45-41 Tuesday in a Six Rivers East conference game.

Johnson hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and Thomas scored 13 of his game-high 17 points in the second half to lift the Orioles to their first conference win of the season. Johnson scored 10 of his 12 points in the first quarter to stake Argyle to an 18-11 lead.

The Comets trailed 36-29 entering the fourth quarter, but rallied to make it 42-41 with a minute remaining.

The Orioles, who went 11-19 at the free-throw line, sealed the win with clutch free throws down the stretch.

"They (Argyle) made their free throws," said Albany head coach Derik Doescher. "They made the big ones. They're a hungry team and it was a nice road win for them. They deserve it."

Senior Boomer Detra led the Comets with 15 points and freshman Isaiah Shell scored 10 points for Albany.

Argyle (2-9, 1-6 Six Rivers East) will host Belmont, and Albany (3-11, 2-5 Six Rivers East) will host Cassville in the Six Rivers Challenge Friday.

Juda 67,

Pecatonica 35

BLANCHARDVILLE - Senior Dylan Bauman scored 15 of his team's 17 points in the first quarter to help Juda take a 17-7 lead and roll past the Pecatonica Vikings in Six Rivers East boys basketball action Tuesday.

The Panthers never trailed as they erupted for 23 points in the second quarter to take a 40-18 halftime lead.

Bauman led all scorers with 26 points while junior Joey Jordan added 17 points for Juda. The Panthers also got 12 points from junior Brandon Bauman. Pecatonica was led by junior Wyatt Massey with 14 points.

Juda (8-5, 5-2) will host Potosi, and Pecatonica (3-10, 2-5) will host River Ridge in the Six Rivers Challenge Friday.

Barneveld 60,

Black Hawk 37

SOUTH WAYNE - The Barneveld Eagles raced to a 34-13 halftime lead and stayed unbeaten in the Six Rivers East with a win over the Black Hawk Warriors Tuesday.

The Eagles made eight 3-pointers in getting a season sweep of the Warriors and improved to 7-0 in conference play.

Black Hawk got 10 points from sophomore Cory Rupnow and eight points from senior Jake Meier.

Black Hawk (4-9, 2-5) will host Highland, and Barneveld will host Benton in Friday night's Six Rivers Challenge.

Poynette 56,

New Glarus 50

POYNETTE - The Poynette Pumas saved all of their free throw shooting for the fourth quarter and it paid off in a win over the New Glarus Glarner Knights Tuesday.

The Knights were able to whittle an 11 point deficit down to six points in the fourth quarter, but the Pumas made 8 of 11 free throws over the final eight minutes to hold off a New Glarus rally.

Poynette played without leading scorer Adam Ray who was out with an ankle injury. Junior Asa Odegaard led the Pumas with 20 points. New Glarus was led by senior Kirbe French with 18 points. Juniors Tyler Kreklow and Eric Felt each scored nine points for the Glarner Knights.

New Glarus (5-8, 2-3 Capitol South) will travel to Waterloo Friday.
