Virginia Mae Ostby, age 90, passed away at New Glarus Nursing Home on December 15, 2023.
Virginia was born June 28, 1933, daughter of Thomas and Vera Hardyman.She was a graduate of Darlington High School, her first job after high school was taking tickets at the movie theater in Darlington. She married Laverne "Sonny" Ostby November 24,1951, and they farmed in Adams Township. Virginia spent many years working at the election polls for Adams Township.
She enjoyed baking, decorating cakes, bowling at Swiss Lanes, Friday nights dancing at the Casino in Monticello and listening to the Russ Wilson Band. Virginia and Sonny enjoyed spending time with Russell and Annetta Tollefson, Tom and Ann Saunders, and Gaylord and Marlys Kittleson. Virginia also loved to play Euchre! Virginia and Sonny were able to travel in the US and also to Europe. She loved having her children,grandchildren, and great grandchildren visit, and when she was able, she enjoyed cooking Sunday dinner. She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Jacque), Mark (Jill Stockwell), Martin (Nancy) Aaron (Julie), Andrew (Carlie Manthei); her daughters. Patricia Wickersham, Pam (Dennis) Kleeman, Jean Chapman, Julie (James) Woerpel, Amy (Bruce) Dickman, brothers Raymond Edward (Chris) Hardyman, Lawrence (Margaret) Hardyman; sisters Judith (Sheldon) Isely and Ethel Burghart. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her “sixth son”, neighbor Lonnie Schmid.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents, her husband on November 3, 2000, sister Marian Ingwell, brothers Harold Hardyman, Laverne Hardyman, daughter in law Corrine Ostby, sons in law August Klitzke Jr and Greg Wickersham, and a grandson, Brent Ostby.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (301 N. Lafayette St, Argyle) with Fr. David Carrano officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Argyle. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church.
