Melva (Lolly) J. Tschanz, nee Halvorson, age 85 of Monroe, died Sunday. July 3, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born on March 5, 1937 the daughter of Herman and Myrtle (Thorson) Halvorson. She graduated from Darlington High School; she started at Green County Teachers College and received her Diploma from U.W. Platteville. Melva married Henry E. Tschanz on April 23, 1960 in Monroe. She was a school teacher for 39.5 years. She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, and taught Sunday school, worked and organized family promise, active in many church committees, church usher, church council, parish visitor service, and chair of Autumn Fest. She also was involved with retired Educators, ADK Teachers organization, Cheese Days float driving, King and Queen of Cheese Days in 2006, Historic Cheesemaking, Cub Scout leader, and volunteered at Turner Hall.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Tschanz of Monroe; children: Hal Tschanz of Monroe and Heidi (Dave) Driggers of Darien, IL; grandchildren: Dex (Emily) Driggers, Abbey (James) Isler, Dean (Alyssa) Driggers, Derek Driggers, and Amy Driggers; great grandchild, Elliana Eloise Driggers; brother, Clinton Halvorson of Darlington; sister-in-laws: Sharon Halvorson, Evelyn Tschanz, Ruth Tschanz, and Helen (Doug) Morgan. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Bubby, Edward, Eldon and Edwin in infancy; sisters: Arlene Heins, Idellis McKillip, and Jeaneen Benson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 9, 2022 at St John’s United Church of Christ with Pastor Tiff Bates officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday July 8, 2022 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at St. John’s United Church of Christ. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family. A memorial fund will be established in Melva’s name.
