John William Sullivan, 83, of Madison, died peacefully on Thursday, April 21st at St. Mary's Care Center, Madison. John was born on February 4, 1939 in Madison, the eldest son of William V. and Helen M. (McGuire) Sullivan of Monroe. John was raised on the family farm; attended Monticello Grade School; graduated from St. Francis Seminary High School, Milwaukee in 1957. He then graduated from Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa. John received his law degree from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He practiced law in Wisconsin, Colorado, and Iowa. He was a faithful supporter of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. At the age of 26, John was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. John's Catholic faith helped him to endure his M. S. journey. He was very independent and rarely said "No, I can't do that!"
John loved to share his traveling experiences to Mexico, France, Spain, Ireland and the U.S. with everyone.
John is survived by his brothers, James (Karin) of Monroe; Drs. Richard (Constance) of Palos Verdes Estates, CA; and sister Mary (Raymond) Weigand of Evansville; many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Marilyn, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Madison. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 12:30 PM until the start of the services. Burial will be held at a later date in Monroe. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in John's name at a later date.
