Howard E. Johnson, age 82 of Monroe passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the New Glarus Home.  He was born on August 11, 1942 the son of Chester and Alma (Hanson) Johnson.  He graduated from Argyle High School.  Howard was united in marriage to Mary Ann Fischer on July 18, 1965 at Adams Lutheran Church in Argyle. 

Howard worked as a meat cutter for Sentry Foods from 1962-1980, he then worked for Monroe Water Department for several years.  He later was the owner and operator of Monroe Fire Safety from 1985 until he retired in 2006.  He was a member of Sons of Norway and the Meat Cutters Union.  Howard enjoyed woodworking, making cutting boards, fishing, RC planes, and taking road trips with his wife and beloved dogs Jake and Korki.  He was proud of the fact he mastered making Lefse, which he learned from his mother-in-law, Orpha Fischer.

Howard is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Monroe; children, Tamara (Jeff) Owen of Brooklyn, Tricia (Brian) Bassett of Monroe, and Scott (Christy) Johnson of Monroe; and grandchildren, Derek Owen, Justin (Carly Huggins) Owen, Jessica Hendrickson, Lauren Hendrickson, and Brandon Bassett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Karsten and Sylvester Johnson. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 AM at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
