Herbert Alvin Blaser, age 98 passed away on March 8, 2024, at the New Glarus Home, in New Glarus Wisconsin. Herb was born on July 24, 1925, to Swiss immigrants Carl and Bertha (Roth) Blaser in Postville, Wisconsin.

Herb attended school in Verona, Postville, Ross School in the Town of Exeter, and New Glarus High School. While in high school Herb loved to play basketball and baseball. Herb was a charter member of the New Glarus Future Farmers of America (FFA) and was the first student to receive the State FFA degree. Herb graduated in 1943 from New Glarus High School.

Herb married his high school sweetheart Luane Christen in a double wedding ceremony with Luane’s sister, Valaria, and husband, Willard, on Father’s Day, June 16, 1946. They were blessed with two daughters, Candy and Cherrie.

After high school, Herb farmed in Postville, Cooksville and in the Belleville area. After retiring from farming, Herb owned and managed Belleville Agri Services Associates, several farrowing facilities and the Belleville Laundromat.  After receiving his real estate broker’s license, Herb owned and operated Herb Blaser Realty. Belleville held a special place in Herb’s heart. Herb loved Belleville and devoted many years to its growth and prosperity.  Herb developed many parcels within Belleville and the surrounding area, allowing for parks, businesses, and countless families to make Belleville their home.

Herb was a member of the United Church of Christ in Belleville, Wisconsin.  Herb was dedicated to his community and served on the church council, Belleville Senior Citizen Board of Directors, Belleville Community Club, Belleville Village Board and Industrial Development Committee.  

Herb loved watching sports and belonged to many sporting leagues. Herb bowled for 50 years and golfed for 40. In his free time, Herb could be found playing euchre, tossing horseshoes or pitching in the slow pitch softball league. Herb played slow pitch softball well into his fifties and threw his last pitch at the age of 83 at the Belleville Community Picnic. 

Herb is survived by his loving wife, Luane, of 77 years.  His daughter, Cherrie Blaser, and granddaughters, Karianne Kundert (Ross) and Karla Berzowski (Jeff). His son-in-law, Richard Kundert (Laurel), and beloved great-grandchildren, Alex, Ella and Lucy Berzowski.  His close friends, Jim Schnieder and Richard Christen (Doc), and many nieces and nephews.  Herb made countless friends throughout the years and loved spending time with them, especially the Borland’s Coffee Club.  

Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Albert, sister, Hedwig Hankel, and daughter, Candy Kundert.

Herb dreamed of living to 100 and everyone that knew him would agree that Herb lived a good and productive life.  Herb’s profound work ethic, kindness, generosity, devotion to his family and community will be long remembered. The family requests doing a random act of kindness in his honor.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in his name to the First United Church of Christ in Belleville, Wisconsin or to the Belleville Senior Center in Belleville, Wisconsin.

A memorial service for family and close friends will be held at     11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with Rev. Laura Kolden officiating. 

A gathering will precede the memorial service from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville.

Herb’s family wishes to thank the staff at the New Glarus Home and Agrace Hospice Care, Inc. for the care and comfort provided to Herb.  A special thanks to Agrace Hospice Care, Inc. staff, Lindsey and Megan, for their profound kindness and compassion during Herb’s final days.
