Colletta E. Wuetrich, age 97, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2023 at SSM Health Hospital from Lymphoma complications. The family is thankful that she was able to live independently in her house until passing. She definitely did it her way with the help of loving family.
Colletta was born March 6, 1926 in rural Monticello, Green County, Wisconsin as the oldest of 4 children, and the daughter of Charles and Florence (Kesler) Devoe. After moving to rural Monroe (Clarno township), she graduated from Monroe High School in 1944. She then joined the Army Nurse Corps and worked at Freeport Hospital for 16 months. She then moved back home and worked at St. Clare Hospital. In January 1947, Colletta married Robert A. Wuetrich and joined him on the family dairy farm where she enjoyed milking cows, field work, and all that comes with living on a dairy farm. Together they raised 3 sons. After the farm was sold in 1980, she moved to Monroe and re-entered nursing school at age 51 at Highland Community College. After graduating as an LPN, she got a job at Pleasant View Nursing Home and worked until age 74 as a staff nurse and LPN. She enjoyed helping patients and appreciated the many friends she made while working there. She was very dedicated to her work, and was honored by an article and interview in the Monroe paper highlighting 11 straight years of never being late or missing a day of work.
After retirement, Colletta enjoyed family and friends, which included daily coffee and regular card games. She especially enjoyed the growing family of grandkids and great grandkids. She was very proud of her 3 sons and didn’t hesitate to tell others. She was living proof that there is no greater love than that of a mother’s love for her children. She was also very dedicated to her faith and her church, Clarno Zion United Methodist.
Colletta is survived by Robert A. Wuetrich, age 95; sons, Larry (Deena) of Lansing Michigan, Steve (Joyce) of Madison, and Greg (Connie) of Monroe. There are also 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Robert (Norma), Hollis (Esther), and Joann (Truman) Selck.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. JoAnn Meyer officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with a funeral service at 11:00. Following the service, there will also be a luncheon at the American Legion Post 1627 12th Avenue in Monroe.
