MONROE - Wisconsin Main Street presented "Main Street Shooting for the Stars," the 19th Annual Awards in Excellence in Downtown Revitalization on Friday evening at the Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Monroe Main Street recipients (with nomination comments included) this year are:
RYAN WILSON: BOARD MEMBER OF THE YEAR
Wilson was nominated for his activity on both the Monroe Main Street and Business Improvement District boards, which helped blend a vision between the two. His vision of the potential of Monroe's Square is clear, and his personal and professional perspective and expertise added to the direction of the Monroe Main Street program. Wilson has proven his willingness to get his hands dirty to reach the Monroe Main Street vision, and is a man who leads by example.
KAREN STOLLENWORK, PH.D. - VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
Stollenwerk serves enthusiastically on the Promotion and Organization committees of Monroe Main Street. She brings analytical and problem-solving skills to both groups. Stollenwerk oversees the popular "Concerts on the Square" promotion, and she developed a marketing program for businesses to help fund the concerts. Working with Judie Hintzman, she created Promotion Committee guidelines, and she added working on the "Market on the Square" subcommittee to this year's agenda.
SCOTT B. PATTERSON, DDS, MS - BEST FACADE IMPROVEMENT UNDER $7,500
Patterson conducted a significant facade improvement in the late 1980s, bringing the building back to its original beauty after surviving a Swiss-style front. Unfortunately, the pine used for the windows suffered greatly over time, with damage to the degree that new windows had to milled for replacement. In addition to creating new windows, Patterson replaced rotted components of the door and painted.
Patterson's self involvement in the work was very high, and his self-initiated previous work on his building spoke well of his commitment. Patterson approached the Historic Preservation Commission prior to the work and was granted a Facade Improvement Grant by the Design Committee. The grant reimbursed Patterson in the amount of $3,987.75, half of the total cost of $7,975.50. It was the lowest facade work done downtown for the year.
Patterson's project added momentum to the grant program and became the first improvement on 11th Street in Monroe.
Also Friday, Monroe Main Street Executive Director Barb Nelson was recognized for her two years of service by Wisconsin Main Street.
