MONROE - The Velveetatones will perform the first free Concert on the Square series from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 7 on the west side of the Square.
The Velveetatones are a blues group made up of five journeymen blues musicians with 35 years of experience. The group has received a Grammy nomination with a Grammy going to an individual member. In 2010, the Velveetatones were honored by Madison Area Music Association as "The best Blues band" and in 2010, were No. 12 on the international blues charts.
Box lunches will be available at Café Claudeen's and Pancho and Lefty's, which will also offer an outdoor taco table. Special Olympics volunteers will be selling popcorn, provided by Bartel's Pub, as a fundraiser.
Beverages will be available at a beer stand sponsored by the Green County Humane Society. Monroe Main Street will sell a variety of concessions. Green County Literacy Council will be the featured nonprofit organization during the break.
In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move to the Monroe Middle School.
