WISCONSIN — On April 12, Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) announced she is running for reelection to the United States Senate in 2024. Baldwin released the following statement on her reelection campaign:
“I’m committed to making sure that working people, not just the big corporations and ultra-wealthy, have a fighter on their side. With so much at stake, from families struggling with rising costs to a ban on reproductive freedom, Wisconsinites need someone who can fight and win,” said Baldwin.
Baldwin was elected to the United States Senate in 2012, defeating longtime Republican Governor Tommy Thompson, making her Wisconsin’s first woman and the first openly gay member elected to the US Senate. She was reelected in 2018.
In the Senate, she has worked with Republicans and Democrats to take on the biggest fights and win, passing legislation to promote Made in America manufacturing, lower the price of prescription drugs like insulin, and expand health care for veterans. She is the author of the Women’s Health Protection Act which guarantees equal access to abortion everywhere in the United States.
“I’m so proud of the progress we’ve made in the Senate over the past few years,” she wrote in a fundraising email. “We’ve lowered the price of prescription drugs, addressed the climate crisis with landmark investment in clean energy, expanded health care for millions of our veterans, and so much more. A highlight of my time in the Senate was when the Respect for Marriage Act, my bipartisan bill to protect marriage equality, was signed into law late last year. That’s a moment I will never forget.”
A day later, she earned the endorsement of the IBEW Wisconsin State Conference. The IBEW Wisconsin State Conference serves as the statewide representative body of 18 IBEW Local Unions who represent more than 15,000 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
“The IBEW has consistently been able to count on Tammy who holds a 100% voting record on the issues important to our union,” said IBEW Wisconsin State Conference President, Dean A. Warsh.
