DARLINGTON — The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society, at 525 Main Street, completed another project on their list, as new flooring was installed at the museum during their holiday closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Final installation took place upstairs, on Friday, Dec. 29, as Black’s Flooring on Main Street completed their work. The flooring was paid for, in part, of the John and Joan Hicks donation that was designated for building maintenance; with an additional donation from an anonymous visitor to the museum.
“The new flooring was installed to replace the worn out linoleum tile and center section of the carpet that was stained and torn,” President Barb Nemec said.
Black’s Flooring in Darlington provided Nemec and the LCHGS board members will various samples of flooring, so one could be selected. It was the desire of the board to find as a good match of the existing woodwork, to keep in style with the 1905 appearance of the museum.
“Black’s did a wonderful job dealing with old and uneven conditions,” Nemec said. “It’s solid and quiet; and will make for a beautiful and easy-clean environment for one of our busiest areas.”
Visitors are welcome to stop in and visit with the staff at the museum.
