On Monday, Sept. 22, the Monroe School Board:

• Accepted a bid from Maddrell Excavating of Monroe for snow removal at district buildings this winter. Edward Grossen and Jeff Voegeli Landscaping also submitted bids, but Maddrell's was the lowest. Maintenance Supervisor Tom Rufenacht said Grossen has been removing snow for the district for about 40 years and the district has been happy with his work. Maddrell's bid, however, was significantly lower in both per-hour equipment charges and salting. "It comes down to a money issue," Rufenacht said. The contract will be for one year. After this year, however, the board will look at signing a three-year contract for snow removal.

• Accepted the resignation of Monroe High School custodian Al Kash; hired Julie Holmes as District Administrative Center Department Secretary/Sub Caller; and granted a leave of absence for Tammy DeRemer, aide at Parkside Elementary School.

• Learned an anonymous donor gave a SmartBoard, an interactive whiteboard, to MHS.
