MONROE - An investigation by members of the Stateline Area Narcotics Team resulted in two arrests Monday after agents raided a Monroe apartment suspected to be a meth manufacturing location.

According to a press release by Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley, authorities discovered a "small amount of suspected methamphetamine, along with the equipment and supplies to manufacture methamphetamine."

Trevor A. Smith, 18, Monroe, and Austin M. Smith, 20, Monroe, were both arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine, possessing methamphetamine precursors, knowingly possessing methamphetamine waste and maintaining a drug-trafficking place. Trevor A. Smith was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

Kelley said an investigation by SLANT led to the warrant and subsequent raid and that the matter remains under investigation.

At roughly 11 a.m., members of the SLANT task force, the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation, Green County Sheriff's Office and Monroe Police Department raided a residence in the 300 block of 3rd Street in Monroe.

Trevor Smith and Austin Smith are being held at the Green County Jail pending court appearances.

The operation by authorities at the apartment took hours to complete because of the hazardous waste associated with meth labs. The location was designated as safe once the agents and others involved completed a decontamination process at the scene.
