MONROE - Monroe has earned a spot on a popular news website's list of
"11 Greatest Foodie Cities in America."
The list, published by the Huffington Post Tuesday morning, cites Monroe for its cheese. "If you love cheese, then Monroe is your heaven," the story says. It says Monroe is "famed for top-notch cheese shops," and mentions Baumgartner's and Alp and Dell specifically. It also includes a mention of the upcoming Cheese Days festival, although the article erroneously states the event includes a grilled cheese contest and cheesecake-eating race.
Other cities on the list include Milwaukee, noted for its "utter devotion to bacon"; San Diego; New Orleans, New York City; Portland; and Arlington, Texas, the birthplace of nachos.
The full list can be seen at huffingtonpost.com. A link to the story is also posted on The Monroe Times' Facebook page at facebook.com/monroetimes.
