MONROE - Monroe High School Athletic Director Dave Hirsbrunner has been on paid administrative leave since Nov. 6, Monroe School Board President Bob Erb said.

Erb said the paid administrative leave was requested by the school district. Erb wouldn't say why Hirsbrunner was on leave.

"I can't comment on that," Erb said Sunday. "We don't comment on personnel matters. We are advised by the district's counsel not to comment on it at this time."

Hirsbrunner has been on paid leave for 16 days and Erb said the leave is ongoing.

Erb said there is no timeline for a resolution.

"It's really up to the board," he said. "It's a process. I will not speculate on when there will be a conclusion. It's not really my position to put that expectation out there."

Hirsbrunner took over as the athletic director in 2010 after Kevin Keen, a Hall of Fame Monroe girls basketball coach, resigned from the position and as a teacher and coach in the spring of 2010.

Hirsbrunner has served as the Monroe cross country coach and was the track coach for 16 years, serving eight years with the boys and eight years with the girls.

His wife, Cory Hirsbrunner, is the superintendent of the Monroe school district.
