DARLINGTON - An Iowa man was killed early Saturday morning by a Wisconsin man accused of driving drunk in Gratiot township.

A 2002 Lexus car driven by Cameron J. Paddock, 22, of Monticello, Iowa, was eastbound on Wisconsin 11 when a 2014 GMC cube van driven by John Drew Brewington, 23, of Salem crossed the center line, striking the Lexus. The accident occurred just before 2 a.m. in the 14000 block of Wis. 11.

Paddock was transported by Warren EMS to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Paddock's passenger, Monika L. Gorham, 23, of Roscoe, Illinois, had minor injuries. She was treated and released from Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County.

Brewington was also treated and released from Memorial Hospital. He was arrested by Lafayette County deputies and jailed, where he is being held pending a court appearance. He faces a tentative charge of homicide by the intoxicated use of a motor vehicle, a class D felony that carries a maximum prison sentence of 25 years.

In addition to the Lafayette County sheriff's department, the Gratiot Fire Department, Gratiot First Responders and Rural Medical Ambulance Service responded to the scene. Emergency flight services were requested, but upper atmosphere weather conditions prevented helicopter flight.

The crash remains under investigation.
