BROWNTOWN — Quick action by local emergency officials on Monday, March 14 helped save the life a small dog that was found struggling to stay afloat in the Pecatonica River near Browntown.
The dog, named Duke, lives close to the river and had a chain on him but broke free. He went missing and eventually was found stuck in the river, said a press release from the Green County Sheriff’s Dept.
“He looks better cleaned up from most of the mud,” said the release.
Duke’s rescue came through the combined efforts of the sheriff’s department, the Dept. of Natural Resources and Browntown Fire Dept.
The dog was taken to Green County Humane Society, where he was examined and authorities were able to reunite Duke with his owner. A statement from the society said only that the dog was healthy and declined to provide any additional details about Duke or his family, citing privacy concerns.
