MONROE - A Green County Sheriff's Department patrol vehicle was damaged Wednesday when it rolled backward after a deputy got out of it to check on a motorist.
Sheriff's deputy Cody Kanable stopped at about 9:52 p.m. Wednesday to check on a motorist who was pulled to the side of Allison Road at Wisconsin 69 between Monroe and Monticello. As the deputy walked to the vehicle, his 2006 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle rolled backwards down a steep hill, over an embankment, and struck a fence and came to rest against a power pole.
The vehicle sustained moderate damage to the rear window and tailgate.
Green County Chief Deputy Jeff Skatrud said in a news release Friday that Kanable likely didn't place the transmission all the way into park before he got out. Kanable heard a clicking sound as the squad rolled backwards, Skatrud said. No one was injured in the incident.
Monroe Police were requested to investigate the squad crash.
