Rita A. LaBarre, age 91 of Brodhead, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. She was born on May 21, 1923 in rural Plain, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Walsh) Mousseau. Rita married LeRoy LaBarre on June 21, 1947 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Middleton. She graduated from Spring Green High School, Madison Business College and U.W. Madison extension with a Librarian certificate.
She worked as a typesetter at the Independent Register in Brodhead for 17 years.
She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Brodhead, Catholic Women's organization, past Secretary and President of St. Rose Catholic Women; past Secretary of Rock Deanery. Rita was an ardent supporter of Wisconsin Right to Life and Family Rosary. She enjoyed needlework, cross stitching, reading, walking, volunteering, a variety of music, and she enjoyed watching the butterflies.
She is survived by 6 children: Kathryn LaBarre of Hanover, Paul (Laurie) LaBarre of Brodhead, Robert (Denise Pinnow) LaBarre of Monticello, Jean (Fritz) Schultz of Brodhead, John (Linda) LaBarre of Cincinnati, OH, and Andrea White of Redding, CA; 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Kate Thomas of Monona, Mary Ward of Madison and Pat Ring of McFarland; brother-in-law, Jack (Sandy) LaBarre, of Virginia, MN; sister-in-law, Judy Disrud of South Beloit, IL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Alice Volk and Frances Jennings; a brother Joseph Mousseau.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Brodhead, with Fr. Michael Moon presiding. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 30 at Everson Funeral Home, Brodhead. A memorial fund will be established in Rita's name. Rita had a favorite quote, "Happiness is a butterfly which when pursued is just beyond your grasp ... but if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you," by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
