Richard Kubly, of South Wayne, was born to life on January 21, 1938 and was born to eternal life on February 5, 2011. Dick was educated in history and education; he received his bachelor and master degrees from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville. He pursued credits toward his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and at Indiana University while teaching history at Monroe High School, retiring in the early nineteen eighties.
He was a talented trumpet player blessed with almost perfect pitch; Dick was part of local dance bands over the years. Any one passing his home on a summer evening could hear the clear, clean sound of Dick's trumpet singing out a big band classic.
Dick is survived by his 102 year old aunt, Frances Strub Noesen; cousins, John (Brenda) Noesen of Waukesha; Marilyn (Charles) Daniel of Brookfield; Julie (Bill) Snively of Rockford, IL; Michael (Mary) Smith of Phoenix, AZ; and Mary Smith of Rockford, IL. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eleanor Strub Kubly and by his grandparents, Rose and George Strub.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot, with Celebrant Fr. David Wanish. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Gratiot. A visitation will be held on Saturday, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of Mass. The Hanson Funeral Home, South Wayne is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or of a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
Dick's family thanks Liz Wilson and the staff of Serenity Haven for the loving, kind care Dick received during the final days of his battle with cancer. A special thanks to Margaret and Donald Shager for their kindness and help toward him during this past year.
