Monroe Police

MONROE - Donald E. Powers, 50, Monroe, was arrested in the 300 block of 27th Avenue at 7:19 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, on a warrant issued by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He was jailed.

On Friday, Nov. 15:

• The death of an 87-year-old woman was reported at 5:57 a.m. in the 2000 block of 4th Street. Foul play is not suspected.

• A tenant in an apartment building in the 2700 block of 8th 1/2 Street reported a possible domestic fight between neighbors at 9:49 a.m. The neighbors were just arguing. No one was cited or arrested.

• An 8-year-old boy at Parkside Elementary was taken into emergency detention at 11:19 a.m. after making threats of harm.

• A phone scam was reported at 12:18 p.m. by a resident in the 1400 block of Riviera Court. The caller had posed as a Medicare employee and fished for personal information. The resident did not fall for it.

• A gold long-haired dog was found running loose at 1:33 p.m. in the 400 block of West 8th Street. It was taken to the Green County Humane Society.

• A 911 misdial was received at 1:42 p.m. from the 800 block of 13th Avenue. The caller was trying to dial 411 for information.

• A 911 caller at 5:21 p.m. in the 3000 block of 10th Street was upset about her marriage and because her husband spends too much time away, not taking his share of childcare responsibility. Police counseled her not to use 911 this way.

On Saturday, Nov. 16:

• A dog that got into two neighbors' yards in the area of 12th Avenue and 25th Street was reported at 11:42 a.m. The dog owner was warned not to let it run at large.

• An ex-wife in another city called at 12:22 p.m. to report a dispute she was having with her ex-husband, who lives in Monroe, over child custody procedures. Police referred her to her attorney and the court system.

• A 41-year-old woman incapacitated by alcohol was reported at 2:20 p.m. by a family member at her home in the 2000 block of 18th Avenue. Police took her to a detox facility in Madison.

• A gas drive-off was reported at 2:32 p.m. at Stop-N-Go, 1607 9th St. It was unintentional, and the person came back to pay.

• An officer on patrol at 3:55 p.m. noticed "Hammertime" written in sidewalk chalk on a stop sign at Ridgeway Road and North 22nd Avenue and called in the streets department to have it removed.

• Loud music was reported in an apartment complex in the 2700 block of 8th 1/2 Street by a neighboring tenant at 4:07 p.m. The offender was warned to turn it down.

• A black cat that's been hanging around in the 900 block of 17th Street was reported at 8:07 p.m. and taken to the Humane Society.

On Sunday, Nov. 17:

• Loud music was reported in an apartment building in the 1300 block of 14th Street by a neighboring tenant at 3:17 a.m. The offender was warned to turn it down.

• A woman in another state called at 4:30 p.m. to report that her adult daughter, who lives in Monroe, sent her a message on Facebook saying she needed police because she was having an argument with her boyfriend. The couple was just arguing. No one was cited or arrested.



Green County Sheriff

MONROE - A citation for operating left of center is pending against Stewart D. Ellsworth, 76, Monroe, following a two-vehicle accident with injuries in Sylvester Township at 7:56 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. Ellsworth was westbound on Wis. 11 just west of Hartwig Road when he saw a State Trooper squad car with its emergency lights on conducting a traffic stop along the side of the road. Ellsworth crossed the center line by about four feet to give the trooper more room and sideswiped an eastbound vehicle driven by Jose L. Osuna-Elvira, 24, Beloit. Osuna-Elvira was taken by Green County EMS to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. Ellsworth reported no injuries. Both vehicles were severely damaged.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - On Tuesday, Nov. 19:

• A deputy investigated a report at 9:13 a.m. of a witness receiving verbal threats from a suspect involved in a case on Blackstone Street in Shullsburg.

• Genevieve M. Shepherd, 23, Benton, was arrested in Benton at 9:16 a.m. on a warrant issued by Lafayette County for failure to pay a fine. She was initially jailed but later posted bond and was released.

• John M. Henry, 20, Belmont, was cited for speeding at 3:42 p.m. on County XX in Belmont Township.

• Nicholas E. Mullen, 32, Shullsburg, was cited for driving without vehicle insurance at 4:27 p.m. on County H in Benton Township.

• A vehicle that had been forced off the road by another vehicle at the intersection of County KK and Neeseman Road in Gratiot Township was reported at 6:10 p.m. A deputy arrived on scene to find a disabled vehicle being removed by a relative of the driver. The driver had left the scene, and attempts to make contact were unsuccessful.

• Olivia C. Alexander, 29, Shullsburg, was cited for speeding and driving without proof of vehicle insurance at 6:31 p.m. on Wis. 81 in Elk Grove Township.

• A hit-and-run accident was reported at 8:35 p.m. on South Judgement Street in Shullsburg. An unoccupied, legally parked vehicle belonging to Roxanne Schwartz, 49, Shullsburg, was sideswiped by an unknown driver who left the scene without notifying police of the accident. Schwartz's vehicle was moderately damaged.
