Monroe Police

MONROE - Police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old man reported at 6:24 p.m. Friday, July 26, at a residence in the 2100 block of 19th Avenue. The call initially came in as a request for an ambulance. The house is sealed until the cause of death is determined. Police typically are called to investigate any death that occurs outside a doctor's care, even when no foul play is suspected.

On Wednesday, July 31:

- A teenage girl reported at 12:11 a.m. that a cousin was making comments on Facebook that he wants to kill her and her baby. Police warned him to stop. The next day at 10:38 p.m., members of the same family reported receiving harassing text messages from each other. They were all told to stop.

- Neighbors reported a man in the 1800 block of 14th Avenue at 10:22 a.m. for striking a dog with a shoe. Police found no injuries on the dog. The man was warned, and advised of better ways to discipline the animal.

- A resident in the 2400 block of 4th Street called at 10:50 a.m. with a concern about the welfare of a neighbor's cat. The cat was meowing a lot but was deemed fine.

- A black Labrador was reported found in the area of the Wisconsin 11 ramp westbound onto Wisconsin 69 at 12:32 p.m. and taken to the Green County Humane Society.

- A man in the 500 block of West 21st Street reported a dispute at 1:28 p.m. over personal property in a mobile home. It was a civil matter, not criminal.

- Police responded at 3:30 p.m. to a report of a dog left in a parked vehicle in the Walmart lot. The animal showed no visible signs of distress, a window was cracked, the dog had water and the outdoor temperature was only 64 degrees, but police spoke with the owner about the dangers of leaving animals in cars.

- A employee at GreenCo, 1601 4th Ave. W., reported at 3:39 p.m. that his wallet was likely stolen out of his coat pocket while at work.

- A stray kitten or small cat without a collar was found in the area of 15th Avenue and 17th Street at 4:23 p.m. and taken to the Humane Society.

- A Shepherd- or Husky-type dog was found in the 2700 block of 6th Avenue and taken to the Green County Humane Society.

- Police responded at 7:36 p.m. to a 911 call in the 1700 block of 17th Street. A child was playing with an old cellphone and dialed 911 by mistake. Police advised a parent to take the battery out of the phone if the child is going to be playing with it.

- Loiterers in the Taco Bell parking lot in the 600 block of West 8th Street were chased out at 10:32 p.m.

- Police responded to a complaint at 11:58 p.m. of people yelling and screaming at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of 8th Street, but located no one inside or out.

On Thursday, Aug. 1:

- A dog owner in the 1100 block of 13th Avenue was issued a final warning after police responded to a complaint at 2:58 a.m. that the dog was barking.

- Police responded to a complaint at 7:46 a.m. from a property manager in the 800 block of 6th Street that people who were on the property may be violating a no-trespassing order. The case was referred to court.

- Staff at Monroe Middle School reported the theft of an iPad at 9:08 a.m. The district-owned iPad had been issued to a student during the school year. The student's family hasn't responded to several letters asking for the iPad to be returned, and the district believes the family may have moved out of state.

- A dog owner in the 300 block of 4th Street was warned to keep the dog leashed after police responded to a neighbor's complaint at 10:45 a.m. that the owner lets the dog walk around unleashed off-property.

- Unauthorized use of a credit card was reported at 12:04 p.m. in the 800 block of 13th Avenue. The fraud has allegedly been ongoing since January.

- A stray cat was reported found in the 1700 block of 16th Street at 1:09 p.m. and taken to the Humane Society.

- A stray gray cat was reported found in the 600 block of 26th Street at 1:13 p.m. and taken to the Humane Society.

- Police were called to a fight in progress between a mother and her two daughters at 1:38 p.m. in the 1300 block of 16th Street. No one was cited or arrested.

- A refrigerator left unsecured on a front lawn in the 900 block of 23rd Street was reported at 1:41 p.m. The resident was warned to take it inside.

- A woman reported at 4:38 p.m. that she is receiving unwanted text messages from a man, in possible violation of a probation condition.

- Police were called to an argument between a man and woman in a parking lot in the 700 block of 10th Avenue Court at 5:55 p.m. Police found no evidence of abuse but warned the couple not to argue in public.

- An anonymous caller at 8:06 p.m. reported two teen boys fighting in a yard in the 2300 block of 14th Avenue. They had left by the time officers arrived but were later tracked down. No one was cited or arrested.

- Police were called at 8:31 p.m. to investigate the death of a 77-year-old woman at a residence in the 700 block of 8th Avenue. No foul play is suspected. The house was secured.



Green County Sheriff

MONROE - On Thursday, Aug. 1:

- Two people were cited when deputies located an occupied vehicle parked at Cadiz Springs State Park at 4:04 a.m., along with several people swimming afterhours in the park. Travis M. Paul, 23, Monroe, was cited for furnishing alcoholic beverages to an underage person. Brittany M. Klemm, 19, Browntown, was cited for first-offense underage drinking. The violations of being in the park afterhours are referred to the Department of Natural Resources.

- Manuel Ramirez Vasquez, 23, Monroe, was taken into custody at the Green County Justice Center at 8:02 a.m. on an immigration detainer issued by the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office. He was jailed.



Lafayette County Sheriff

DARLINGTON - Tanner A. Farrey, 20, Fennimore, was cited for underage drinking after deputies responded at 1:03 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, to a noise complaint on West Water Street in Shullsburg. He was released to a responsible adult.
