Frank H. Salzwedel, age 85 of Monroe, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Frank was born April 23, 1924 in Monroe, the son of Fred F. and Lillian (Hartwig) Salzwedel.

He attended Pengra Country School in Sylvester Township.

Frank and Ruth E. Stuckey were married on January 6, 1952 at the Monroe Evangelical Church.

He was a life long resident of Sylvester Township where he farmed for many years. Following his retirement from farming in 1978, Frank worked as a groundskeeper at the Decatur Lake and Monroe Country Clubs. He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and Monroe Moose Lodge #754.

Frank enjoyed farming, golfing, and having coffee in Juda.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Salzwedel of Monroe; four children, Timothy Salzwedel of Mauston, WI, Carla (Dean) Yeagle of Dakota, IL, Kris Dalton (Scott Olson) of Monroe, and Nancy (Scott) Duke of Alexandria, VA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Kesler, and a brother-in-law, Willard Mauermann, both of Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Tony Salzwedel in 2004; three brothers, Bob, George, and Lloyd Salzwedel; and a sister, Helen Mauermann.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Monroe United Methodist Church, with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, at a later date. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Frank's name to the Apostolate to the Handicapped or the United Methodist Church of Monroe or Juda.
