Eunice Mae "Eunie" Witt

Eunice May "Eunie" Witt, age 94 of Monroe, died Friday, November 9, 2012 at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Monroe. The former Eunice Mae Loeffel was born March 10, 1918 in Dutch Hollow, Sylvester Township, Green County, at the home of her parents, John and Martha (Golz) Loeffel. Eunice attended Dutch Hollow School in Sylvester Township. She married Lester A. Witt on June 1, 1939 at the Immanuel Evangelical Church in Monroe. Eunice and Lester farmed all their life in Dutch Hollow.

Survivors include three sons, Paul Witt (Dee Christianson) of Cambridge, WI, Donald (Lynn) Witt of Monticello, Richard (Patsy) Witt of White Sulphur Springs, Montana, and two daughters, Beverly (Alan) Flint of Blue Mounds, WI and Karen (Tom) Richey of Plymouth, Indiana; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harvey (Sue) Loeffel of Monroe. She was also a mother to three foreign exchange students.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester on July 26, 1996; a grandson, Alan Witt; daughter-in-law, Shirley Witt; six sisters, Viola Ladwig, Pearl Schild, Frances Hefty, Leone Coplien, Verline Miller, and a Carol in infancy; and three brothers, Armin, Manuel, and Edward Loeffel.

Eunice was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, Monroe Garden Club, Green County Garden Club, Montesian Gardens of Monticello, Green County Homemakers (75 years), Wisconsin 1918 Club, and charter member of Dutch Hollow Homemakers. She was also a member and Past President of the Green County Extension Homemakers and received Senior Homemaker of the Year Award in 1986 and 1995. Eunice was and adult leader for the Dutch Hollow 4-H Club for 35 years, and also the Green County Fair Superintendent for 40 years. She loved to garden and was known as the "Iris Lady of Dutch Hollow." She had very creative and had a green thumb that was evident through her beautiful flower displays on the Dutch Hollow hillsides.

Memorial services will be held Friday, November 16, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Pat Soddy officiating. Private family burial will be in Dutch Hollow Cemetery, Sylvester Township. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be given in Eunice's name to Monticello Monstesian Gardens or Dutch Hollow Cemetery. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
