Felonies


• Robin Yount Stevens, 19, Kenosha, was sentenced June 7 to 90 days in jail and three years of probation on a Class F felony conviction of burglary. Charges of theft, credit card theft and driving a stolen vehicle were dismissed but read into the sentence. Stevens is also ordered to undergo an assessment for alcohol or drug abuse, maintain absolute sobriety and attend group sessions on cognitive thinking. Court records indicate on Sept. 14 he drove a stolen Kia Sorento SUV and broke into a garage in the N6000 block of Hammer Road in Albany Township.

• David Lee Webb, 20, jailed in Monroe, was sentenced June 14 to six months in jail for revoking conditions of his probation on convictions of theft and receiving stolen property. A probation agent noted Webb has shown a "flagrant pattern of breaking the law" and concludes, "He simply does what he wants to do, regardless." The agent's report indicates Webb violated a no-contact order, lied to officers and has been cited for numerous traffic infractions. He owes the court more than $6,000. He has 87 days of sentence credit and Huber work-release privileges.

• Patrick Joseph Bergum, 17, Monroe, pleaded no contest June 17 to a reduced Class A misdemeanor charge of retail theft and was sentenced to 18 months of probation. A Class H felony charge of intentionally contributing to the delinquency of a minor and a Class A misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer were dismissed. Court records indicate Bergum and two younger teens shoplifted more than $1,700 in electronics from the Monroe Walmart in December, then lied to an officer about it. Bergum is ordered to pay restitution. If he successfully completes his probation, he may petition to expunge the case from his record under a state law that gives leniency to youthful offenders.

• Lawrence J. Giesfeldt, Jr., 32, Oregon, was charged June 18 with a Class H felony count of false imprisonment and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, battery and criminal damage to property, all stemming from a domestic incident Dec. 30 at a home in the N7800 block of Panorama Road in Exeter Township. Court records indicate he grabbed and shoved a woman, kneed her in the back, held her against the garage floor and punched the windshield of her car, causing it to crack. A warrant is filed for his arrest.



Misdemeanors

• James Allen Melton, 49, jailed in Madison, was sentenced June 5 to 14 months in jail, minus 184 days sentence credit, for revoking conditions of his probation on misdemeanor convictions of fourth-degree sexual assault, disorderly conduct and knowingly violating a domestic abuse order. Court records indicate he made sexually suggestive comments to Department of Corrections staff, threatened other staff members, acted aggressively toward a Dane County deputy, called and texted his wife in violation of a no-contact order and gave the phone number for one of his victims to a fellow Dane County Jail inmate so he could "hook up with her." A probation agent noted Melton "has proved that he represents a significant danger to those around him," "shows complete disregard for all law enforcement personnel" and has made "no effort to change his behaviors."

• Lavelle Thomas Conner-Hatchet, 24, Freeport, pleaded no contest June 13 to misdemeanor bail jumping and driving with a revoked license, stemming from a traffic stop Nov. 7 in Monticello. He also pleaded no contest to resisting an officer last July. An associated charge of causing injury while driving intoxicated was dismissed. He is fined a total of $1,399.50.

• James I. Williams, 32, Everton, Mo., pleaded no contest June 13 to forfeiture charges of malicious destruction of property and disorderly conduct, reduced from misdemeanors. Class A misdemeanors of battery and intimidation of a victim were dismissed. The charges stem from a domestic dispute in August 2005 at a residence in the W2500 block of Shanghai Road in Jefferson Township. Court records indicate he pushed and shoved a woman, kicked in a door and unplugged a cordless phone from the wall and hid it from her. He is fined $558.

• Carlos Aguilar, 17, Juda, was granted a one-year deferred prosecution on a Class A misdemeanor charge of battery, stemming from incident March 3 at his home in the N1000 block of Union Grove Road in Spring Grove Township. Court records indicate he punched his 15-year-old sister in the face and ear, causing bleeding and bruising. He is ordered to complete a domestic violence or anger management course and attend quarterly monitoring conferences.

• Justin John Curran, 31, Monroe, was granted a one-year deferred prosecution June 17 on a Class B misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct, stemming from an incident Feb. 28 at his home in the 2500 block of 13th Street. Court records indicate he was drunk and became upset, pushed a woman and yelled at her, grabbed his 2-year-old daughter's arm, used foul language, punched the walls, threw a bottle of liquor at the wall, causing it to shatter and liquor to splash on the walls and floor, and kicked a child's activity table, causing a bowl of Cheerios and milk to scatter and spray. He is ordered to undergo an assessment for alcohol and drug abuse and comply with all recommendations, complete a domestic violence or anger management course, attend quarterly monitoring conferences and pay the court $343.

• Deanna K. Shultz, 43, Brodhead, pleaded no contest June 17 to a forfeiture charge of disorderly conduct, reduced from a misdemeanor. A Class A misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer was dismissed. Court records indicate she yelled at a Brodhead police officer and Green County deputy and physically resisted arrest on Sept. 29 at her home in the 900 block of 19th Street in Brodhead. She is fined $267.50.

• Dawn M. Meighan, 37, Freeport, was charged June 18 with misdemeanor counts of obtaining a prescription drug by fraud and obstructing an officer. Court records indicate she knowingly procured a dose of the narcotic painkiller Dilaudid by giving staff at Monroe Clinic a false name on Jan. 5, and then also gave a false name to police. Her initial appearance is July 8.

• Joshua Anthony Shaw, 22, Potosi, was charged June 18 with misdemeanor bail jumping. Court records indicate he violated a no-contact order, from pending charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property, by sending at least 13 text messages to a Monroe man on June 10 and 11.
