Justin W. Wenger, 31, Monticello, entered a guilty plea to felony bail jumping and a not guilty plea to resisting an officer and two more counts of bail jumping on Tuesday, April 15. Court records indicate Wenger led police on a foot chase through a marsh in Monticello on Aug. 30. Wenger was sitting with a group of people in a driveway when officers tried to check him for suspected probation violations. Wenger then fled on foot before officers lost his trail. He was later found and arrested. Wenger has a sentencing hearing set for June 12.
Misdemeanors
Michael M. Smith, 30, Beach Park, Ill., was found guilty due to a no-contest plea for disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing on Tuesday, April 15. He will serve 90 days in jail with work release privileges. Smith will be on probation for four years. Court records indicate Smith was highly intoxicated and wandering around New Glarus on Sept. 16, when he broke into a family's home in the 600 block of 2nd Street. Smith broke into the house and was naked from the pants down in front of the family with four children. Police arrested him soon after and Smith said he was "drugged and dropped off here." He thought the house he broke into was a party. Smith owes the court $176.
