Carol D. Donny, 69, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. After 40 years of suffering with Rheumatoid Arthritis, she is now at peace.

She was born February 12, 1939, the daughter of Glen and Josephine Bryant Ridnour. Carol graduated from Monroe High School, then attended Beloit College, UW-Whitewater and UW-Madison. She married Melchior Alexander Donny on June 21, 1959; together they had four children - Betsy, Mary, Mel and Joe.

Carol was a devoted mother and took particular pleasure in being a grandmother. She was an avid Cubs fan, presented stiff competition at any trivia contest, and read a seemingly infinite number of books throughout her lifetime. Carol had been a chairman and volunteer for the Crisis Intervention Hotline, was on the Appointment Review Committee for the City of Beloit, as well as other boards, and was very generous in the prevention of cruelty to animals and the Rock County Humane Society.

Survivors include her loving companion of 29 years, L. Ross Benton of Beloit, WI; four children, Betsy (Tim) Schmiechen of Beloit, WI, Mary (John) O'Brien of Evanston, IL, Melchior (JoAnn) Donny of Janesville, WI and Joseph (Nicole) Donny of Verona, WI; Ross' children, Stephen (Susan) Benton of Beloit, WI, Timothy (Michelle) Benton of Thief River Falls, MN and Christopher Benton of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Chad Donny of Janesville, WI, Erin Thomson of Woodridge, IL, Aidan, Andrew and Clare O'Brien of Evanston, IL, Alexandra, Celia, Nina and Eliza Donny of Verona, WI, Amanda (Nick) Drout of Janesville, WI, Morgan Frye of Janesville, WI, William Schmiechen of Beloit, WI, Reid and Bryce Benton of Beloit, WI, Graham Benton of Beloit, WI, Nathan Benton of Italy and Derrik Benton of Rockford, IL; one great-grandson, Cassius Donny of Machesney Park, IL; sister, Joan Sorenson of Appleton, WI; brother, Glen (Harriet) Ridnour of Mineral Point, WI; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 in the Daley Murphy Wisch and Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Pastor Kurt Handrich will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
