MADISON — A 22-year-old New Glarus woman was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at the scene of a single-vehicle crash about three miles north of New Glarus, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Brianna N. Johnson was the sole occupant of the vehicle and died from injuries she sustained in the crash, the preliminary investigation found.

The crash was reported at about 7:30 a.m. on Peerless Road just south of Ridge Drive in the town of Primrose.

The crash happened sometime between 4 a.m. and the time it was reported, according to Elise Schaffer, public information officer for the sheriff's office.

"We don't have enough information yet to point to a cause," she added.

Johnson was southbound on Peerless Road when her vehicle went off the east side of the road, rolled down an embankment and struck a tree.

The accident investigation is ongoing.
