At the moment, Mittness, of Monroe, is the only candidate for the 50th Assembly District seat. Rep. Jenna Jacobson (D-Oregon) is the incumbent, but she is one of a handful of candidates challenging for the 17th Senate District. Mittness has some background in local politics, though he is not a career politician. In 2006 as an 18-year-old senior at Janesville Parker High School, he ran for Rock County Board — and lost by 18 votes. Also, his grandfather, Lew Mittness, once served in the state assembly.
