The iconic “twin peaks” dairy barn, built in the early 20th century a couple of miles east of Monticello, off County Trunk C. The barn was erected by Oscar J. Persons, a notable Monticello area livestock dealer who owned the 275 acre farmstead in Mt. Pleasant Township. The next proprietor, in 1931, was Burnette L. Clarke, Monticello’s first veterinarian. Swiss immigrant Jacob Kopp became the third owner in 1943, and the Kopp farm became regionally recognized for his progressive land conservation practices. Raymond and Harriet Kundert purchased the farm in 1962, and their daughter Barbara and husband Roger Zurfluh became owners in 1992. The landmark barn met its demise in 1993, leveled by a derecho, a tornadic strength “straight line wind.”
