Summer activities, classes available
water zumba
Water Zumba at the Monroe Municipal Pool takes place Tuesdays and Thursday from June 16 to Aug. 20.

MONROE PARKS & RECREATION PUBLIC SWIM LESSONS

Swim lessons at the outdoor pool are available for swimmers 42 inches tall and entering 4K through 8th grade. Lessons will be at 11 to 11:45 a.m. Monday to Friday for two weeks per session. There is a cost.


ADULT WATER EXERCISE

The following exercise class options are being offered:

  Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5 to 5:45 p.m., June 8 through August 26 with Certified Aqua Zumba Instructor Connie Wyssbrod

Senior Water Exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays, Noon to12:45 p.m., June 21 — July 28 with Instructor Bridget Cotter

Senior Water Exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays, 11 —11:45 a.m., August 2 — 25 with Instructor Bridget Cotter

Find the time that fits best into your schedule and come join us for this exercise class for high school age to adult. There is no cost if you have a season pass. You must register with the Front Desk. You can drop in but if you register, we will call you with cancellation information. We will not make up classes canceled due to inclement weather.


CHILDREN’S DANCE

We still have room in our 5 and 6 year old dance class held on Wednesdays, June 16—July 28 at Behring Senior Center. Class is at 5:50 — 6:20 p.m. and there is a fee.

Dance & Read with Rapunzel — Rapunzel will be there to dance with you and read you a story about her. This one day session is for dancers 3 years or older and held on Wednesday, August 11, 5:30—6:30 p..m. at Behring Senior Center. There is a fee.


ADVENTURE CLUB PROGRAMS

Art in the Park & Magic Tricks — Each week for the first 45 minutes, we will do different art project. The next 45 minutes will be spent learning some magic tricks that the kids can perform. They will be performing the magic show for Community Connections Kids on July 21st. We’ll go to the pool from 3:00 — 4:30 p.m. and parents can pick up the children on the hill by the pool at 4:30 p.m. Each week, children should come with swimsuit, water bottle and towel and bring a snack every day. Program is for 6 — 12 year olds and held 1 — 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 6 — August 10 at Recreation Park North Shelter. There is a fee.

Water, Water, Everywhere — The first 45 minutes, we’ll do different water experiments. The next 45 minutes, we have water fun with squirt guns and water games. We’ll go to the pool from 3:00 — 4:30 p.m. and parents can pick up the children on the hill by the pool at 4:30 p.m. Each week children should come with swimsuit, water bottle and towel and bring a snack for each day. Program is for 6 — 12 year olds and held 1 — 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, July 7 —August 11 at Recreation Park North Shelter. There is a fee.

Game Show Gurus: Wanna Be a Ninja Warrior, Masked Singer or Minute to Win it Challenger — Each week for the first half hour, we’ll start with a Ninja Warrior Challenge on Swiss ALPS Playground. The challenge will be to improve your own personal score each week with different challenges. After the Ninja Challenge, we’ll play a famous game show such as Price is Right, Family Feud, Fear Factor, etc. We’ll end with Minute to Win it Challenges. We’ll go to the pool from 3— 4:30 p.m. and parents can pick up on the hill by the pool at 4:30p.m.. Each week children should come with swimsuit, water bottle, towel and bring a snack every day. Program is for 6—12 year olds and held 1—4:30p.m. on Thursdays, July 8—August 12 at Recreation Park North Shelter. There is a fee.


KIDDING AROUND YOGA

This Kidding Around Yoga program is a style of yoga that lets kids experience yoga by meeting them where they are — as KIDS. A typical class gets the children singing, dancing, skipping, marching, jogging, shaking, laughing, hopping, limboing and storytelling. And it introduces mindfulness and meditation, all while practicing authentic yoga to original KAY music. Participants are asked to wear facemask to the program. Please bring a water bottle and your own mat.

TENNIS LESSONS/LEAGUES

All levels are welcome as you play tennis with your friends this summer at Recreation Park. The first 30 minutes will be for lessons & then 30 minutes of match play. As the weeks go on, we’ll have less lessons & more match play.

When: Tuesdays, July 6 — Aug 3 (Rain days will be Wednesdays)

Who: Entering 1st & 2nd grade Fall 2021 4:30 — 5:30 p.m.; Entering 3rd — 5th grade Fall 2021: 5:30 — 6:30 p.m.; Entering 6th — 8th grade Fall 2021: 6:30 — 7:30 p.m.

ENGINEERING FOR KIDS programs

Harry Potter Day — Children can enroll into Engineering For Kids Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Make wands, brew potions, play Quidditch and compete for the House Cup. All needed ingredients included. 

Age: Entering 2nd — 5th grade in Fall 2021

Date: Tuesday, July 20, 9 a.m. — 12 p.m. at City Annex

Size: Minimum of 10 to hold class and Maximum of 20.

Minecraft EDU: Theme park mania — Campers build their very own Minecraft amusement parks. They’ll navigate a number of engineering and teamwork challenges. Campers will turn their dream into a Minecraft reality with the intent of creating a visitor-friendly and realistic park.

Age: Entering 2nd — 5th grade in Fall 2021

Date: Tuesday, July 20, 1 — 3:30 p.m. 

Size: Minimum of 10 to hold class and Maximum of 20.

Academy of Space Explorers — Budding engineers are introduced to the field of engineering as it relates to the science of aircraft and spacecraft by using Engineering Design process to design, construct rockets and more! You will explore, create and have fun. 

Age: Entering 2nd — 5th grade in Fall 2021

Date: Tuesday, July 27, 9 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. at City Annex

Size: Minimum of 10 to hold class and Maximum of 20.

Location: City Hall Annex at 1821 12th Street (Old EMS building)

Robotics: EV3 Roboday — Campers design & program robots to compete in this simulated Olympic event. Campers use Lego Robotics & computers to learn principles of robotics, computer programing & teamwork.

Age: Entering 2nd — 5th grade in Fall 2021

Date: Tuesday, July 27, 1 — 3:30 p.m. 

Size: Minimum of 10 to hold class and Maximum of 20.

MONROE CHESS CLUB

This chess club is for all ability levels. Instructor Eric Jubeck will continue to expand students’ knowledge of early, mid and end game strategies with an emphasis on playing games against good competition and taking our game to the “next level.” Chess meets in Room W05 at Monroe High School, unless program needs to be moved to Twining Park due to high level of COVID cases. We plan to attend an all—day Chess Tournament in the Milwaukee area in November on a Saturday, date pending with details to be provided during the class.

Age: Entering 1st — 8th grade in Fall 2021
