SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Elizabeth Woerpel of New Glarus Girl Scout Troop 2037 was one of seven Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland representatives who attended the international Girl Scout Leadership Institute in September.
The GSLI is held every three years and is the girl-led component of the Girl Scouts of the USA triennial conference. Seven Badgerland Girl Scouts were selected to join over 900 girls from around the world for the four-day program that featured renowned speakers, hands-on workshops and learning techniques for advocacy and developing an action plan to build a community service project.
Girl Scouts heard from many female professionals at the conference including educator Dr. Tererai Trent, philanthropist Anne Romney and author Elizabeth Smart. Discussions and work topics focused on issues, selected by the Girl Scout attendees, including: basic needs, education, gender equality, healthy relationships, inclusion and diversity, self-image and teen violence.
