MONROE — Acclaimed artist Kuniko Yamamoto brings Japanese folktales to life through music, masks, origami and mime, in her solo show at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at Monroe Arts Center (MAC).
Yamamoto’s award-winning performances promote cross-cultural communication and understanding through storytelling and art. Her dynamic presence engages children and adults alike, transporting them to another place, another time.
A veteran performer, Yamamoto often appears at Disney’s Epcot Center and has performed at The Kennedy Center and National Storytelling Festival. She moved to the United States in 1985 and studied theatre with Tony Montanaro.
In addition to performing, Yamamoto has taught origami workshops in more than 2,000 schools and colleges across the country. Don’t miss the free reception and origami workshop with Yamamoto immediately following this show.
Kuniko Yamamoto’s performance is suitable for all ages. Special student rate tickets are less than $15 and children under 5 are free.
