Celebrate Museums in Stephenson County

FREEPORT - Explore Stephenson County museums for free from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17. Special activities and exhibits highlighting Stephenson County history and culture are offered at several area museums.

The Lena Historical museum will present Dr. Gordon Dammann who has written a book on Civil War Photography. Books will be available for purchase and Dammann will be signing books between noon and 4 p.m. Two short presentations about the book will be offered at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. An exhibit of some of Dammann's Civil War era photographs will be on display as well.

The Freeport Arts Center is open extended hours, beginning at 10 a.m. and will host a Spring Brunch from 10 a.m. to noon. Tickets for this event are $15 for members, $18 for non-members, and $25 at the door. General admission is free and special educational hands-on activities will be offered in celebration of museum day.

The Antique Engine Museum and Silvercreek Museum will present a display of objects related to President Abraham Lincoln.

The following museums will be open and are participating in museum day events: Cedarville Historical Museum, Freeport Arts Center, German Valley Historical Museum, Lena Historical Museum, Silvercreek Museum, Stephenson County Historical Museum and Winslow Historical Museum.
