Zavala: Quilt Block Wind Farm having a positive impact
Letter To The Editor

Wisconsin’s renewable energy landscape continues to grow while bringing many benefits to communities across the state, including Lafayette County. One project in particular, EDP Renewables North America’s Quilt Block Wind Farm, benefits our county in more ways than one. This wind farm generates 98 megawatts (MW) of electricity. and is making a direct, positive impact on residents, farmers, and small businesses.

For landowners in our county, the Quilt Block Wind Farm has been a game-changer. Over $10.5 million has been paid to those landowners, providing a steady source of income supplementing their farming activities. Farmers can continue growing crops while enjoying the financial support from this project.

Over $6.9 million in local spending has flowed from the project, supporting businesses such as restaurants, shops, and suppliers, which are vital to our local economy. Our local governments have received more than $1.3 million in revenue from the wind farm. These funds go straight into essential community services, like schools and infrastructure improvements.

The Quilt Block Wind Farm shows how renewable energy projects can have a lasting positive impact—not just by helping the environment but by providing real, tangible benefits to the people and businesses that call rural Wisconsin home. With continued support for clean energy, projects like this will play a vital role in the state’s economic and environmental future.
