Fischer: Mistaken identity, mistaken information
Letter To The Editor

From Steve Fischer, Attorney at Law

Eagle Pass, Texas

To the Editor:

I received a mocking, sarcastic, note with your letter to the editor from “Steve Fischer”.

I am the Steve Fischer who lives on the border where Mexico meets the U.S. In my youth I was the elected District and County Attorney in South Texas and more recently I was the attorney in charge of the one of the Legal Divisions of Operation Lone Star. I have been a judge and the elected Director of the State Bar of Texas.

Since then, I bought a second farm, this one with 1,011 ft on the Rio Grande River.

This other “Fischer” says “Let’s look at the Border”. From Wisconsin? Did he mean the Canadian border? Having spent much of my life dealing with migrants and living within 1,200 feet of the Mexico — U.S. border. I wonder if this other Fischer has even seen the border. Migrants come here to work. Quite a few have stayed with my wife and I. In addition, objective data — whether it’s the Cato Institute or the Texas Department of Public Safety data — shows clearly that “Illegals” commit less crime than native-born Americans. As of May 15, 2024, when I last served, we had 4,000 border cases and not one Fentanyl or Cartel case. Yes, cartels use our ports of entry, but they are not the immigrants. I saw no mention in this other Fischer’s letter of the horrible, dishonest, and racist mention by Donald Trump of immigrants eating our dogs and cats. We didn’t need to believe the Republican Governor of Ohio, nor the local police chief and city manager of Springfield, Ohio to know Trump was lying. The facts came out soon enough.

As for his statements about Kamala Harris and democracy, I can guarantee this other Fischer never read one of the 60 election cases Donald Trump lost nor did he read the January 6, legal papers. He certainly didn’t read the election rules of either party as to when a candidate becomes incapacitated. I was one of the people who wrote Democratic Chairs, lambasted Biden’s associates for not revealing his health issues.

In general, I don’t vote by party. The problems with our country stems from lack of education, and according to every survey, Trump’s best demographic is older, white males who did not go past high school.

I don’t know Tammy Baldwin, but I like her a lot better after reading that letter.
