To the Citizens of Monroe,

I am writing to express my disappointment in the lack of an official observance for the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. As we approach this significant milestone, it is disheartening to see our community let this day pass without a formal gathering, tribute, or moment of shared reflection. Failing to recognize the a quarter-century mark of one of the most defining moments in modern American history feels like a stark departure from the values we hold dear.

The 25th anniversary is not just another date on the calendar. It is a vital moment to educate a younger generation who did not live through that day, to honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost, and to renew our gratitude for the local firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel who risk their lives for us daily.

I urge the people of Monroe to take time on September 11th to remember, reflect, and honor the heroes and victims in their own way. We must ensure that our promise to “Never Forget” remains a living pledge, not just a forgotten phrase.
