Fischer: Border is still an issue
Letter To The Editor

From Steve Fischer

Argyle

To the Editor:

Well, this is my final letter before the election. I’m sure most of us already made up our minds who we are voting for, but for those whom are still undecided, here are a few facts.

The border is still an issue. The other “Steve Fischer” who says he lives on the border, made it sound like the southern border was under control.  Especially since our “Border Czar”, Kamala Harris, finally visited. Well let’s look at the numbers. According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website, so far this year there has been over 2 million known encounters. This does not include got-aways and this is just through August. Doesn’t quite sound like a success or much of a slow down.

Now let’s look at another number. As of 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday Oct. 15th, our national debt was 35.7 trillion dollars. This is one of the reasons inflation has gone crazy with food costs up 25.8%. But whose at fault here? How about professional politicians in Washington D.C. who keep voting for spending like it grows on those beautiful cherry trees in that city.

Do you know what the debt was, say in 1999? It was 5.7 trillion. That happens to be the year Tammy Baldwin went to Washington. Of course she had already been a politician in Wisconsin since 1993. In total, 31 years. I’d call that a profession.

Now I know it’s not just her fault, unfortunately there are many on both sides of the aisle, but we don’t get to vote for all of them.

Another is Mark Pocan who has been in politics 25 years, 12 years in Congress. I still haven’t seen anything this gentleman has accomplished except voting the party line. He doesn’t campaign much.

So my point, maybe it’s time we turn our government over to successful business persons instead. People who know how to manage and live within a budget. Our founding fathers were not professional politicians trying to keep their power or pad their wallets. They were men of substance that would come together, govern, then return to their businesses and homes.

We have a choice this election. The craziness of the last 4 years or the stability of the previous 4 years. When asked if she’d change anything their administration had done, VP Harris replied, “Not a thing comes to mind.”

Your choice. Your vote. Make it count.
