On Saturday, August 1, Turner Hall of Monroe will join Switzerland in commemorating the founding of the Swiss Confederation 735 years ago in 1291. Turner Hall’s Swiss National Day observance will feature a dinner buffet of authentic Swiss fare, with entertainment by the Monroe Swiss Singers and veteran accordionist, John Waelti.
Scheduled to be held in the Grand Hall, the public is cordially invited to attend, starting with a social time at 5:30 p.m., followed by the buffet at 6 p.m., and a short program at 7 p.m. The menu includes Turner Hall’s garden-fresh salad bar, dinner rolls, a raclette station (melted raclette cheese over potatoes), Kalberwurst, alpine macaroni, Swiss green beans, Aargauer carrot cake, and coffee or iced tea. The cost, which includes the buffet, tax, tip, and entertainment, is $28 per person, with $14 for children and under. To add to the festive atmosphere, attendees are welcome to wear Swiss attire.
Payment constitutes a reservation, and must be received no later than Monday, July 27, in one of two ways: online at https://turnerhallofmonroe.org, or by mailing a check payable to Turner Hall of Monroe to Swiss National Day Dinner; PO Box 762; Monroe, WI 53566. Regretfully, reservations/payments for this event cannot be accepted by phone, at the Ratskeller Restaurant, or at the door.
Turner Hall of Monroe, a 501(c)(3) non-profit believed to be the only Turner Hall of Swiss origin left in the United States, is listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. The Swiss National Day observance is part of Turner Hall’s 2026 Swiss Heritage Series.
