Field: Two senators, two responses
Letter To The Editor

From Carrie Field

Monroe

Letter to the Editor:

Here’s how our two Wisconsin senators treat veterans and their families.

A few years ago, my mom was applying for benefits through the VA. My father had served during the Vietnam War, and we had learned that he had been exposed to Agent Orange, and that was a major contributing factor to his death at the age of 61. After multiple letters and phone calls to the VA and getting nowhere, a neighbor told us to write directly to both Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Sen. Ron Johnson to see if they could help.

Senator Johnson responded with a form letter, stating that he was happy to hear from his constituents and we should stop by his office for coffee if we were ever in Washington DC.

Senator Baldwin responded with a letter asking permission so her office could investigate my mother’s claim. Less than three weeks later, a gentleman from her office called to let us know that the claim had been approved, and my mom would start receiving VA benefits.

So there you have it, one US Senator who truly does serve her constituents, and one who does not.
