DEERFIELD - Dan Schettler said his Sugar River boys track and field team has been "really lucky" in not suffering any major injuries this spring.

The Raiders have also been really good.

Ryan McCoy and Jon Beckman each rolled to two individual victories and Sugar River seized control early en route to a dominating victory in the 18-team Deerfield Invitational late Friday night.

The Raiders won three of the meet's first four event finals and finished with 103.5 points, easily holding off Princeton-Green Lake (80.5). Darlington was fifth with 53 points and Albany was 14th with 18 points.

Lake Mills scored 107.75 points to win the girls title. Darlington was third (72.75), Sugar River fourth (60.5) and Albany 12th (18).

Schettler said the Sugar River boys have won every meet this season with the exception of the Watertown Invitational, where three Division 1 teams finished ahead of the Raiders.

"It's been a nice year," Schettler said. "We've been pretty fortunate not to have any (serious injuries) and we've just had some kids give us some really nice performances."

McCoy swept the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races and ran a leg on the record-setting 3,200 relay squad to complete "a pretty tough week for him," Schettler said.

McCoy ran the leadoff leg on the 3,200 unit that won in a meet-record time of 8 minutes, 14.58 seconds and then added wins in the 3,200 (9:36.18) and the 1,600 (4:31.07). The 3,200 time also was a meet and school record.

"We had a pretty tough dual against Marshall on Tuesday and he ran the 1,600, 800 and 3,200 - and then to come back on Friday, that's a lot to ask from a kid," Schettler said. "He's just been really, really strong this year. You can tell he put a lot of work in during the offseason."

Wesley Morgan, Alexander Yeiser and Riley Miller joined McCoy on the 3,200 relay.

"They looked really, really good," Schettler said. "We always try to win the 4x800 because that sets the tone."

Beckman swept the hurdles titles, winning the 110-meter event in 15.10 and the 300 in 41.45, holding off teammate Kelvin Johnson (42.01) and Darlington's Kyle Johnson (42.04).

"Jon had a very good night," Schettler said.

Morgan won the 800 in 1:59.24, well ahead of Albany's Reece Whitehead (2:03.28), and Garrison Woods won Sugar River's other title with a leap of 43 feet, 7 inches in the triple Jump. Woods added a third-place finish in the long jump (21-6.5) and was fourth in the high jump (6-0).

"He's been pretty steady for us all year and he had a nice performance," Schettler said of Woods. "He broke two school records - his own long jump record and the triple jump record."

Darlington's Tyson Miehe (9:47.41) and Michael Sinclair (10.02.2) finished second and third in the 3,200 and the Redbirds' 3,200 relay unit was second to Sugar River in 8:20.66.

The Darlington girls swept the relay events, rolling to titles in the 400 (53.55), 800 (1:52.54), 1,600 (4:18.08) and 3,200 (10:08.51). The Redbirds' Hailey McGowan added third-place finishes in both the shot put (35-3) and the discus (107-8).

Sugar River's Madeline Brunner won the 3,200 in 11:57.93, holding off teammate Lou Ann Judd (12:00.86), and they both were part of the third-place 3,200 relay unit (10:37.32).

Bailey Hlavachek led Albany with second-place finishes in the 800 (2:25.66) and the 1,600 (5:30.89).
