ARGYLE - Senior Kayla Butler-Paulson delivered a game-winning three-run double in the seventh inning to lift Argyle to a 13-12 win over Highland on Thursday.
"It was huge for her," Argyle coach Heidi Ganshert said. "We've had a couple of tough games. There is no one else I would have wanted in that spot than her. It's the confidence boost we needed as we get closer to the tournament."
Paulson had five RBI in the game.
Argyle improves to 11-7 overall and 5-5 in the Six Rivers East.
Highland led the Orioles 12-10 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Argyle sophomore Natalie Romdemme singled as a pinch hitter. Sophomore Jadyn Saalsaa, who went 3-for-4, singled and sophomore Kirsten Ostby walked to load the bases. That set the stage for Paulson's heroics.
Argyle junior Ashley Bruehlman went 2-for-4 with a triple and five RBI. Ostby went 2-for-3.
Argyle's Kyah Hendrickson pitched three innings in relief to get the win. She gave up one run on three hits, struck out one and walked one. Junior Taylor Mathys started in the circle and went three innings. She gave up four runs on six hits, struck out four and walked four. Junior Kaylie Berget also pitched one inning in relief and gave up seven runs on seven hits and struck out one.
Black Hawk 6, Benton-Shullsburg 5
BENTON - Sophomore Mia Jackson went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI to propel the Warriors to a win over Benton-Shullsburg.
Black Hawk scored two runs in the second inning to jump out to an early lead. The Warriors led 5-0 after four innings.
The Warriors had 10 hits as a team. Black Hawk senior Jordyn Delzer went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Freshman Hannah Butler pitched a complete game to get the win. She gave up five earned runs on nine hits, struck out nine and walked two.
