ELKHORN - The Monroe-New Glarus girls swimming team had a banner day medaling in seven of the 10 events they entered in the Elkhorn Invitational Saturday.

Monroe-New Glarus entered the meet with just nine swimmers, but each event scored points and the Cheesemakers finished seventh place out of 12 teams racking up 172 points. The Cheesemakers were just two points away from sixth place and finished better than last year.

"It's another indication of a small, but solid group of swimmers," Monroe-New Glarus coach Linda Moser said.

McFarland won the team title with 503 points, which was about 100 points ahead of the next closest team.

Monroe-New Glarus freshman Madelyn Hammer finished second place in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 40.58 seconds. Hammer also took fifth place in the 100 breaststroke (1:22.43), which is a personal record. Freshman Reagan Andersen also set a PR in the 100 breaststroke (1:37.22).

Monroe-New Glarus junior Anna Wolf took fifth place in the 100 butterfly (1:16.07).
