Monroe edges Wiota, 4-3

WIOTA - The Monroe Brewers received a superb pitching performance from Ben Korth and defeated Wiota 4-3 in a Night League game against Wiota Thursday.

Korth went the distance and gave up three runs. He struck out eight and hit one.

Monroe's Scott White led off with a walk and Justin Hahn bunted for a single. Brewers co-player manager Rooney Janecke, who was 2 for 4, came through with an RBI single. Adam Francour knocked in a run with a groundout.

In the third, Hahn walked and Janecke singled. Brewers co-player manager Lon Scheuerell then knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. Korth reached on an error in the sixth and White was able to knock him in on a groundout.

Wiota's Jeff Solberg and Matt Keister each had two hits.

Wiota pitcher Colton Laird pitched six innings and gave up four runs on five hits. He struck out five and walked six.

The Brewers improved to 2-2 in the Home Talent Night League and Wiota dropped to 2-2. The Brewers will play at Argyle in a Sunday League make-up game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
