Young named WFSCA Division 3 POY

Mckenna Young was named the WFSCA Division 3 Player of the Year following her stellar senior season, which included 12 shutouts and a perfect game.

MONROE — Following her state-championship senior year, Brodhead’s Mckenna Young was named the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (WFSCA) Division 3 Player of the Year.

During the state tournament, Young pitched 13 innings and struck out 27 batters. She is tied for third for most strikeouts in a game (16) and tied for fourth in strikeouts in a tournament (27). 

Teammate Ava Risum also made First-Team All-State. The sophomore pitched two innings in the Division 3 semifinal game, recording the final out via strikeout. Risum and Young didn’t give up a single run in the state tournament, tying a Division 3 record. In fact, the duo didn’t give up a single run in the entire postseason.

Kaegann Paulson was the remaining medium school (Divisions 2 and 3) All-State member, receiving Honorable Mention. The freshman pitcher led Monroe to a regional title, giving up just one earned run against McFarland while striking out six batters. 

In small schools (Divisions 4 and 5), Six Rivers East Player of the Year Chloe Schraepfer made Second-Team All-State. The senior pitcher posted a 12-9 overall record with a 1.64 ERA. She helped her team to a second-place finish in conference with her team-leading 26 RBIs. 

Juda-Albany’s Ciarrah Davis received Honorable Mention All-State. She led her conference championship team in runs scored (27), walks (13) and stolen bases (12). She had the third-highest batting average on the team, hitting at a .400 clip.

Brodhead’s Taetum Hoesly and Monroe’s Brinley Roidt made First-Team All-District for medium schools, while Juda-Albany’s Avary Briggs made First-Team All-District for small schools. Brodhead’s Sophia Leitzen and Juda-Albany’s Mya Johnson received Honorable Mention in their respective districts.
