MONROE — The Cheesemakers were embarrassed at home by one of southern Wisconsin’s premier clubs on May 2, losing to Mount Horeb 10-0.

Facing one of the conference top programs is never an easy task. Unfortunately for the Cheesemakers, Mount Horeb wanted to make a statement after entering their Badger West game with a 4-6 overall record on the season. Of the Vikings’ six losses, four were to ranked teams.

Monroe (1-8) struggled all night trying to stop Mount Horeb’s attack. The Vikings scored just after 90 seconds into the game,

By the time seven minutes had been played, it was 3-0, and later 9-0 at halftime, with a 10th goal missing by mere seconds.

Five minutes into the second half, Mount Horeb scored the 10th — which led to a mercy-rule ending just 15 minutes later.

Rowan Severson and Anya McKay each had hat tricks for the Vikings with Mikayla Holler adding two goals herself.

Monroe played Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld May 5, then were set to play at Sauk Prairie May 6.

On May 10, the Cheesemakers return to TR Holyoke Field to host Stoughton, then make the trip to top-ranked Oregon May 13.

The final two games of the regular season will be played at home: May 17 vs. Baraboo and May 19 against Monona Grove.
