NEW GLARUS — New Glarus High School students continue to demonstrate their ability to compete at the highest levels, with the school earning the fourth-highest UW–Madison access rate among public high schools in the state of Wisconsin for the 2024–25 graduating class.

According to data on UW–Madison access rates for 2024–25 public high school graduates, 21.3% of New Glarus High School graduates accessed UW–Madison, placing New Glarus fourth among all public high schools in Wisconsin. Only Granton (28.6%), Gibraltar (25.6%), and Middleton (21.8%) had higher access rates.

“This is an excellent accomplishment for our students and a reflection of the opportunities and preparation they receive at New Glarus High School,” said New Glarus School District Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Thayer. “Our students are demonstrating that they are capable of competing with students from across the state and country by earning opportunities at one of the nation’s top public universities. We are incredibly proud of them.”

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is consistently recognized as one of the nation’s leading public research universities. Earning admission and choosing to attend UW–Madison represent significant accomplishments for high school graduates.

New Glarus High School’s fourth-place ranking is particularly noteworthy because the access rate represents the percentage of the school’s graduates who went on to attend UW–Madison. The 21.3% rate places New Glarus among the very top public high schools in Wisconsin and highlights the college- and career-readiness culture within the school and community.

The achievement also reflects the work of New Glarus educators, counselors, families, and community members who support students in setting ambitious goals and preparing for life after high school.

“We want our students to leave New Glarus High School believing that they can pursue whatever future they envision for themselves,” said Thayer. “Whether that path leads to UW–Madison, another college or university, technical college, the military, or directly into a career, our goal is to ensure every student is prepared and has the confidence to take that next step.”
