COLUMBUS — The Redbirds saw their girls golf season end by 15 strokes on Sept. 28 at Kestrel Ridge, a par 70 course from the women’s tees.

With the top four scoring teams advancing to the WIAA sectional, Darlington finished with a score of 399 — just shy of East Troy (384), which advanced in fourth place. Host Lakeside Lutheran (347) was first, followed by Edgewood (373) and Jefferson (376).

Darlington senior Josie Thomas carded a 92, advancing to the sectional as an individual, as did junior teammate Laura Weaver (101), the final individual to advance.

Thomas scored pars three of the four par 3s and two of the 12 par 4s.

In the front nine, Thomas shot even on the par-3 second and par-4 third hole, and then strung together back-to-back bogeys before another par on the short sixth hole. On the back nine she was even on the par 3 16th and par-4 18th holes.

Weaver tallied a birdie on the par 4 fourth, then parred the short sixth hole. On the back nine, she was even on the par-3 16th. In all, Weaver finished with one birdie, two pars and five bogeys.

Also playing for Darlington were Sophie Wiegel (102), who was a single stroke shy of Weaver for the final sectional qualifying spot, and Josie Meister (104), and Lin West (113).
