Sugar River Blanks Columbus 5-0

Senior Anya Brenkman scored a goal and assisted on two others while sophomore Kate Parman got a goal and an assist to lead the Sugar River Raiders to a 5-0 win over Columbus in Capitol Conference girls soccer on May 6. The Raiders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half on senior Kylie Humke’s goal at 11:53 with an assist from junior Ella Woodmansee. That was followed by a goal from Brenkman and an assist from Parman to make it 2-0. Parman found the net with junior Kennedi Easser on the assist at 16:43 to make it Sugar River 3, Columbus 0 at halftime. In the second half, senior Hannah Boldebuck got a goal off a Brenkman assist at 62:28 to put the Raiders in control at 4-0. Junior Toria Devoe rounded out the scoring with a goal at 67:46 as Brenkman got her second assist of the night. Brenkman is now fourth in the state in scoring with 62 points. She has 26 goals and 10 assists. Goalkeepers Mackenzie Ohms and Savanna Minter each had two saves for the Raiders. With the win, Sugar River is now 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Capitol Conference. Sugar River hosts Milton in non-conference action on May 10 at Belleville.
